About Pacer

What it is

Pacer is a terminal autocomplete popover for zsh. While you type in Ghostty, iTerm2, or Terminal, it opens next to your cursor and lists subcommands, options, branches, files, and scripts, with a short description of each.

Why it exists

Fig showed how useful a popover in the terminal can be, and then it shut down. Its code lives on as open source. Pacer takes that code, keeps the popover and the spec library, and removes everything that needed an account, a server, or AI.

Rules

One setup
Apple silicon macOS and zsh, in Ghostty, iTerm2, or Terminal. Doing one setup well beats doing many badly.
Local only
No AI, no account, no telemetry. Every feature works from data on your Mac.
Fast
The popover must update within about 100 ms of a keystroke. pacer stats measures it on your Mac.
Invisible when idle
Your shell behaves the same with Pacer as without it.

Status

Pacer is in development and is not ready for users yet. The home page lists what works today and what is planned.
